This occurred at Heathrow Airport back at the beginning of June, but it's important and worth mentioning. Chip Cantor, a young man from Kansas City going to England to intern and raise money for a child to go to Disney World, was turned away by immigration officials and sent back to the US -- it seems, for no other reason except that he is Jewish.
This is part of a disturbing trend in Britain, as Melanie Phillips noted back in 2007. As more and more Arab immigrants have taken refuge in the UK, anti-semitism has become a more prominent feature of life there, notwithstanding the historic leadership provided by people of Jewish heritage like Benjamin Disraeli (one of my favorite prime ministers!).
It is important for people of all faiths -- and of none! -- to speak out against the injustices that are perpetrated against people like Chip Cantor. If we who can speak out refuse to do so, we will fully deserve any such evils that are visited upon us because we are Christians, Americans, or for any other invidious reason.
