A construction manager points to the view of London's skyline from inside The Shard, a newly-constructed high-rise building in London, Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. Passengers stepping out of London Bridge station cannot help but crane their necks to gaze at the jagged tower under construction: The Shard is the tallest building in the European Union and looks like a slice of glass balanced on the edge of the financial district. When the tower opens next year, visitors to the observation deck will see helicopters fly by at eye level and take in the metropolis all the way to the distant north Downs Hills. The structure designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano dwarfs nearby landmarks like Tower Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral .(AP Photo/Lefteris Pitarakis)

China's inflation rate eased to a 15-month low in December, though sticky food prices are a reminder of the risks the government is weighing as it tilts policy towards boosting growth as internal and external demand for Chinese goods falters. Consumer price inflation of 4.1 percent, just ahead of market expectations of 4.0 percent, extended an easing trend of the last five months to reinforce the view of many that the central bank is poised to ease monetary policy. CHANGES POSITIONS OF SHIPS - This image provided by the U.S. Coast Guard shows the view from the Coast Guard cutter Healy as she follows the Russian tanker Renda taken at 5:01 p.m. EST Friday Jan. 6, 2011 as they make their way towards Nome. The tanker carrying much-needed fuel for the iced-in Alaska city of Nome was less than 190 miles away on Saturday and was making slow but steady progress, a company official said. The ship is scheduled to arrive later Monday or perhaps even Tuesday. If the mission is successful, it will be the first time petroleum products have been delivered by sea to a Western Alaska community in winter. (AP Photo/US Coast Guard)

This color view taken November 7, 2011 of a mineral vein called "Homestake" comes from the panoramic camera (Pancam) on NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity, and released by NASA December 7, 2011. The vein is about the width of a thumb and about 18 inches (45 centimeters) long. Opportunity examined it in November 2011 and found it to be rich in calcium and sulfur, possibly the calcium-sulfate mineral gypsum. Homestake is near the edge of the "Cape York" segment of the western rim of Endeavour Crater. The view is presented in approximate true color. This "natural color" is the rover team's best estimate of what the scene would look like if humans were there and able to see it with their own eyes REUTERS/NASA/JPL-Caltech/Cornell/ASU/Handout (UNITED STATES - Tags: SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY) FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY.
