So they say Obamacare helps poor students? Most of the liberal pundits and legislators speaking for socioeconomically disadvantaged kids have no idea what it’s like to be one. As a recent grad from that demographic, I have three reasons Obamacare hurts low-income college students.
They’re calling it the “Large Retailer Accountability Act” that would force big box retailers to pay minimum wage of $12.50 in Washington D.C. Currently minimum wage in the District of Columbia is $8.25, which equals $17,160 a year. If that sounds low consider zero is a much lower sum and what many earn in D.C. now is significantly less. The money in an IRA is not “tax-preferred,” as the White House asserts. Money in an IRA is rather “tax-deferred,” meaning the government is going to get their money one way or another. No surprise there that they got that wrong. The White House is short on CPAs. They don’t even know how to do their own taxes right.
