This image provided by NASA shows an image captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory of a blast of plasma streaming from the sun in August 2012. Scientists say a solar eruption was detected on March 5, 2013 and was headed toward Mars. NASA’s Curiosity rover will postpone some activities but other Mars missions will operate normally.(AP Photo/NASA)

This composite image made available by NASA and assembled by data acquired from the Suomi NPP satellite in April and October 2012 uses the satellite’s Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), to show the U.S's lights at night. Americans are paying more to maintain the nation's electrical grid than a decade ago, but they appear to be getting little for their money from utility services that are no more reliable and in some cases seem to be getting worse. An Associated Press analysis of utility spending and reliability nationwide found that electric customers are spending 43 percent more than they did in 2002 to build and maintain local electric infrastructure. Since then, power outages have remained infrequent; but when the lights do go out, it now takes longer to get them back on. (AP Photo/NASA)

This artist rendering provided by NASA shows the Van Allen radiation belts around Earth. A new study published Thursday Feb. 28, 2013, in the journal Science reports that NASA’s recently launched twin satellites to the region discovered a third, temporary ring. It appeared for a month before a shock wave from the sun destroyed it. Scientists are still trying to figure out how often this happens. (AP Photo/NASA)

FILE - This Thursday, May 24, 2012 image made from video provided by NASA-TV shows the International Space Station taken from the thermal imaging camera aboard the SpaceX Dragon commercial cargo craft as it approaches the station. The International Space Station regained contact with NASA controllers in Houston after nearly three hours of accidental quiet, the space agency says. Officials say the six crew members and station are fine and had no problem during the brief outage. A spokesperson said something went wrong during a computer software update on the station.
