Charlotte, N.C. -- Going by the conventional rules of American politics, the Democratic Convention this week was an unmitigated disaster. And, going by the same rules, GOP convention was a disaster, too. So, either the rules of American politics have fundamentally changed, or at least one of the parties is taking an enormous gamble.
WASHINGTON -- According to the pundits and politicians, this election is all about the economy. We're all supposed to know that -- because we're not stupid. That's why the Republicans had a "national debt clock" over their convention floor in Tampa, Fla., and the Democrats didn't have one in Charlotte, N.C.
By now you certainly know that the Democrats have been suffering from a self-inflicted injury since their convention began in Charlotte on Tuesday. For the first time in many presidential election years, the word God was omitted from their platform. The platform also failed to acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Both of these breaks from Democrat Party tradition were reportedly ordered by Obama.
Of course the Democrats restored Jerusalem to the platform- along with God- over the objections to many in the hall, making the disaster even worse for the Democrats.
Romney discussed the DNC with Carl Cameron.
Dick Durbin responded to Bret Baier's questions about removing God and Jerusalem from the Democrat's platform.
I went to the US Consulate this week to take care of certain family business. It was a thoroughly unpleasant experience. I think it is ironic that two days after my extremely unpleasant experience at the consulate, State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland refused to say what the capital of Israel is.
