Dear Ms. Hughes: On March 25, 2013, you wrote an opinion piece in Townhall entitled: “An Open Letter to Sarah Palin,” indicating your disappointment with Governor Palin for “quickly [leaving] the building without even a second glance,” at the conclusion of her remarks at CPAC.

You are beginning to worry me. I am afraid you are losing touch with the people on whom your fame is based. I, after all, was one of your biggest supporters once. I am thrilled that you get invitations to go to NBA games, that you display your Chick-fil-A shirt, and that you go and support your daughter and her celebrity friends on Dancing with the Stars.

The folks at the American Conservative Union did not get the memo about the GOP's painful election loss of 2012 -- so the group forgot that you win elections through addition, not subtraction.

Circular firing squads are about as helpful as they sound, yet they are something at which some Republicans excel. I do my best to avoid engaging in them. To paraphrase President Reagan, my 80 percent friend is not my 20 percent enemy. But sometimes my 80 percent friends do something 100 percent stupid, and pretending they didn’t could cause more damage than calling them out on it.

John McCain’s presidential campaign manager from four years ago, Steve Schmidt, has compared the upcoming Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) to the “Star Wars bar scene.”

At one of the first CPAC’s, Ronald Reagan boldly pronounced that the Republican Party needed to raise “a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people.” Paul Ryan, who came of age during the Reagan’s Presidency, certainly passes that test.

There are so many more noteworthy and relevant topics than the clothes of CPAC attendees, especially in an election year. Let's put this "controversy" behind us and get back to reality.

Mitt Romney may have won the straw poll but Sarah Palin won CPAC's heart—electrifying the Conservative Political Action Conference with one of the most rousing and effective political speeches of recent years. Both winners managed to advance the cause of conservative unity and raised the prospects for a competitive and formidable Republican challenge to Barack Obama's re-election.

Conservatives are in danger of letting left wing groups define their own agenda. A slew of
far left groups led by Al Sharpton, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the People for the
American Way are attacking for CPAC for having a panel featuring immigration and financial
journalist Peter Brimelow and Robert Vandervoort of Pro English.

Ann Coulter is wrong about Newt Gingrich. She is wrong about Mitt Romney. She is wrong about President Obama. Since the election race began, Ann Coulter has been wrong about near everything having to do with the GOP race in 2012. Yet, she's still smarter than near everyone out there. I love Ann Coulter, even when she's wrong.

The Allegheny region and its people have retained distinct characteristics. It was defined early on by its distance from Philadelphia, and it became a large settlement of Scots-Irish with their individualist way of life.

To all outward appearances, the just-concluded Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was a huge success. It was attended by a large, boisterous crowd, a substantial part of which was student-age - a promising indicator of the movement’s appeal to the coming generation.

Based on what I've heard from the mainstream media, I'm pretty sure the conservative movement is now being led either by Jared Loughner or GOProud's president, Chris Barron.
