What does racial prejudice have to do with the debt ceiling debate? For the average person the answer to this question isn’t obvious.

As negotiations in Washington on this year’s budget (already halfway into the year that this budget is for) come to a head, the rumor mill points to a Washington-as-usual result. That is, split the differences down the middle.

To all outward appearances, the just-concluded Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was a huge success. It was attended by a large, boisterous crowd, a substantial part of which was student-age - a promising indicator of the movement’s appeal to the coming generation.

Given their miserable Nov. 2 record, it's difficult to understand why Democrats don't demand the departure from party posts of Democratic National Chairman Tim Kaine and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
