Why the objection to "white Hispanic?" White refers to color; Hispanic to personal or ancestral language, or perhaps to one's possessing a Spanish surname. Hernan Cortes, Francisco Pizarro et al. were Spaniards, i,e. white Hispanics.

As a retired teacher and proud member of the United Federation of Teachers, representing public school teachers of New York City, I'm with the teachers and their union here. The courts usually don't have a problem with "ceremonial deism": invocations, benedictions, "God bless you" and the like.
Nobody's trying to censor Christians (at least not until Obama came along). All we ask is what Jefferson asked: Keep religion separate from the state. I'll wear my skullcap, you your cross, no problem.

Californians should take a lesson from the Dover, PA school district that wasted a shipload of taxpayer dollars defending a policy of teaching "intelligent design" in biology class that they know or should have known didn't have a ghost of a chance in court. But alas, today's courts may well uphold California's silliness. That will leave sensible folk no choice but civil disobedience or abandoning the public schools.
