I see a medical error that does not rise to the level of "idiocy," especially given the level of scientific literacy among Americans, even Members of Congress. Akin is right on the money when he implies that it is morally repugnant to kill a baby for the sins of his or her father. Killing a baby does not unrape a mother. All it does is kill a baby.

Well said....when will our fellow citizens recognize that since Roe v. Wade: 55,369,029 American citizens have been murdered. Those commited by PP since 1970 is 6,208,328; by PP this year 219,942; US this year: 809,416 of those due to rape or incest, 7,851). These deaths have occured and have not commanded the media attention of a movie theater shooting? Sad but true.

The evil genius of the Missouri congressman's comments is that they lend themselves to such broad interpretations -- and misinterpretations.

By now his remarks are familiar, but just in case ...

Akin told a local TV interviewer: "First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare." He continued: "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

My own take is that there's a dual-core of asininity here. First, Akin's formulation makes it sound...
