I think that so many Jews have always sought out ways to survive because of the discrimination they have endured over the ages, even supporting those who discriminate against them. And, yet, they wonder why Hitler and the Germans felt that they could not trust them---especially since so many of them helped run the "death camps" just to save their own skins.

When it comes to a life or death situation, you yourself can't say how you would react to live. The survival instinct trumps anything else. At least they didn't convert to Christianity.

And that, my friend, is the shame of the whole situation. To suffer at the hands of almost every nation and to be persecued by people who called themselves Christian but were far from God for no reward except in this life is the tragedy. I pray daily for Jews in Israel and in every nation. I know God chose Israel and will, once again, concentrate on them when the age of grace is complete. He commanded us to support Israel, both individuals and nations. Those who do not will pay the price. He may deal with Israel, but we are not authorized to do so.

Decades ago, the sociographer Milton Himmelfarb coined the aphorism that "American Jews earn like Episcopalians and vote like Puerto Ricans." And his words ring as true today as ever. Surveys show that roughly 70 percent of American Jews intend to cast their ballots for President Barack Obama's reelection next month.

Himmelfarb's quip indicated that American Jews abjure their economic interests in favor of their liberal values. Certainly it is true that for American Jews to vote for Obama next month they must act against their economic interests.
