I live in NE Texas, was born in Houston, and spent half of my life in Dallas. If I HAD to live in Houston or Dallas I would pick Houston in a heartbeat. At least Houston is still a "Texas" City. Dallas is more like Kansas City or St Louis ie a midwestern city than it is Texan. There are more non Texans in Dallas than there are native borns.
