Fortunately for the rest of us, society expects and has accepted the Federal government's involvement in a little more than just those things... I, for one, am glad the Feds didn't leave voting rules and other traditionally "state issues" exclusively in the hands of Southern legislatures in the mid-1900's. I think there are a few members of minority communities in the South that are happy too...

Manchin and Toomey announced their ‘compromise’ on expanding background checks Wednesday, which, among other things, closes the “gun show loophole.” By law, all federal firearms licensees are required to conduct background checks for firearms transactions—even at a gun show. But gun control advocates repeatedly say that 40 percent of all gun purchases at gun shows are private sales and thus, not subject to a background check.
