GodsLaws, Your arguments are grounded in religious zeal. Not the law. First, the government is not trying to censor anyone, so this isn't a First Amendment issue. You can go out to the street corner and say marriage is whatever you want, the state refusing to continue to endorse your definition and enforce it in no way implicates the First Amendment. As for the religious meaning, the term "marriage" was offered up as a legal term of art to mean state sanctioned unions. You can't offer the term up for legal use and then simultaneously claim it retains its religious meaning. If it's a legal term, the state has to provide the status on an equal basis (or provide compelling justification for the state's discrimination by gender).

You simply must read Allahpundit's coverage of this defection parade.  It's hilarious.  He's even got a half-joking pool running on which Senate Democrat will be the next to "evolve," and when the announcement will come. Republican Senator Rob Portman opened the floodgates earlier this month by announcing his support for same-sex marriage (he has a gay son), touching off a stampede of Democrats into the SSM camp.  Among those who have abruptly changed their minds literally within the last two days : Claire McCaskillMark Warner
