I would suggest everyone read Charles Krauthammer's excellent column in National Review to get a different view on this.
"Chuck Hagel is out of the mainstream of thinking ... on most issues regarding foreign policy," says GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham. Neocon William Kristol concurs: Hagel is "out on the fringes."
But where, exactly, is the mainstream on foreign policy in 2013?
Since the Bush II years, "the three amigos" -- Sens. Graham, John McCain and Joe Lieberman -- have clamored for new wars.
"We are all Georgians now!" thundered McCain when Vladimir Putin was thrashing the Georgians for attacking South Ossetia.
"Bomb, bomb, bomb -- bomb, bomb Iran," trilled McCain in 2008 in parody of the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann."...
If you read Krauthammer's column, he believes a war with Iran would be understandibly problematic.
But Hagel's view to take the military option off the table and unilaterally eliminate sanctions at the same time would be ludicrous. Does he really believe the Mullahs would negotiate in good faith? We might as well just give them the go ahead to build a bomb.

Cut off all military aid, trade and diplomatic relations with Israel. Drop a few bombs on Tel Aviv just for kicks. That will make the Islamic world love us. No more terrorist attacks.
Remove the military option and end all sanctions against Iran. The mullahs are kind, gentle peace-loving people who are certainly trustworthy and want nothing but friendship with the United States.
Admit we never should have gone into Afghanistan. The Taliban should have stayed in power and continued giving safe haven to Al-Qaeda. 9/11 was just a misunderstanding and Al-Qaeda really has nothing but admiration and love for the United States.
That should have been done back in June, 1967.
Wait a minute. If Israel starts another war via the false flag that results in US casualties this option becomes available again and should be exercised immediately.
So Al-Qaeda had "safe haven" in Afghanistan?

By the way, my own view is that Israel can decide on who they want to be citizens. Too bad so many Jews here seem to believe the US should allow anyone to come here, whether they are assimilable or not. I find this hypocritical as hell coming from people who demand the US support Israel in all matters, no matter what.
