Anyone who begins a statement about arms with, "I believe in the 2nd amendment, but ... ", does NOT believe in the Second Amendment. The period immediately following the phrase, "shall not be infringed" was not placed there accidentally. I've noticed that those who would restrict citizen ownership of certain firearms do not seem to have any qualms about arming government's civilian agencies with not only the arms that bear resemblance to military arms, but with actual military arms.
