Actually, her most significant patent was for frequency-hopping radio transmission. The militaries of several major powers including the U.S. used that technique for jam-resistant radio communication.

Hedy Lamarr held patents, if my memory serves, on accelerometers which enabled the Norden bombsight and the computing gunsight in the P-51. There were a few very capable actresses then, and there are a few now, but Hedy approaches unique as an engineer.
