Those working minimum wage support the increase because their pay will go up and they do not fear losing their job. Those who do not understand economics, but consider themselves compassionate, think they are being generous and kind(some even see it as charitable). The politicians who support raising minimum are trying to buy the votes of the above two groups and they want republicans to oppose the increase so they can demonize them for not caring for the poor.

The unemployment rate has been stuck above 8 percent ever since Obama pushed through his ill-fated stimulus scheme to increase the burden of government spending.

This high level of joblessness presumably reduces Obama’s chances of getting reelected, so you would think that Democrats would be very leery of proposals that increase the cost of job creation.

Yet they’ve relentlessly pushed to subsidize unemployment, even though Paul Krugman and Larry Summers have...
