Giving your words back to you, " the "Ukrainian spring" of mob violence to topple dictatorial, yet stable, Arab leaders in Northern Africa (even if he was corrupt and dictatorial, not unlike what we have now in Washington) was an act of provocation--not appeasement. And not unlike the "Arab spring's" chaotic aftermath, the vacuum has been filled with extremist, anti-Semitic (That's right, JB168, anti-US, anti-Christians) are now part of the new "legitimate, democratic" governments in Egypt and Libya, also allied with the differing factions of Islamic terrorists (to include Al-Qadia). And Mr. Mubarak, wasn't he our staunch ally and a supporter of Israel, and Mr. Ghadaffi, while erratic, he was willing to work with the US and Westerners, unlike the ruling factions now in Egypt and Libya. JB168, your creative writing gift can turn dangerous in the service of knee-jerk, misplaced anachconistic anti-(fill in the blank) propaganda. Try starting with the facts, not cherry picked factoids..

Wow, Paolo3, hypocrisy, really, supporting the "Russian" side of the story, while not understanding the true history of the area. occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, really, that was why we had elections there in 2004, 2005, 2006... and we left Iraq in 2011 when we were supposed to. I seem to remember that Russia occupied Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldava, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, parts of Finland since WWII but no hypocrisy there right Paolo3!!! True, we need to get out of Afghanistan, and the sooner the better, but then again Russia did that first, as the USSR nad they left after ten years. The Ukraine disappeared after the Russians annexed the Crimean Khanate in 1783, the region called New Russia was settled by Ukrainian and Russian migrants. Despite the promises of Ukrainian autonomy given by the Treaty of Pereyaslav, the Ukrainian elite and the Cossacks never received the freedoms and the autonomy they were expecting from Imperial Russia. However, within the Empire, Ukrainians rose to the highest Russian state and church offices. At a later period, tsarists established a policy of Russification of Ukrainian lands, suppressing the use of the Ukrainian language in print, and in public.
2nd Amendment covers bonified US citizens, not illegal immigrants. As to minorities they should be covered already if they are citizens.
I think that you have lost your ability to reason. The Dems claim they are more moral and defend the minorities, then why are they: the ones tweeting pics of their privates all over, having illicit "sex" with interns at the WH, groping their workers and associates, but not being taken to task for it, accusing the Repubs of not being compassionate enough while attacking faith-based relief organizations, trying to force religious institutions who provide reduced cost health care to perform activities that go against their core beliefs, pointing out how if there is a "racists" crime occurs that it is only white on black crimes that count, but when black on white crime is brought up that is racist to mention it. You really need to stop watching and reading so much MSM stuff and try and study up on the issue before you post such a load of nonsense. As to starving the needy, what are you talking about, check the Presidents who provided the drought relief to Africa in the 80's and 90's, Reagan and Bush I, they also tried to ensure that it got to the truly needy but that did not happen due to Warlord intervention. As to robbing the poor, what are you talking about, if it about taxes, try again. And as to rejecting people of color, not letting them become Americans, the Repubs are all for that but doing it legally, my great-grandfather was an immigrant and he did it the way that many did before and many did after him, through the proper legal way. I also know of many African friends who took that same path. They are from Nigeria and Ghana, and became US citizens in 1992, after doing all the right things to become a citizen, and one of their questions to me was, why did President Reagan give all those illegal immigrants amnesty. Why did they not have to do what we did. My answer to them was, I do not know. So don't try and paint the Repubs as being against immigration. The Repubs are by no means immune from the stuff I mention above but there mistakes are trumpeted in the MSM while the Dems get a pass on it.
Are you looking at the same scandals all of the American people are seeing now? Benghazi, where an Ambassador was sent out to lie and mislead the American people about events that had occurred, aobut how "2" overzealous employees in the Cincinnati IRS office have n to over 35 and we now find out it has been going on over 4 years? How about the President using the Justice Department to stonewall any investigation by invoking "executive priviledge" yet when Nixon tried that he was pilloried in the press. How about level the playing field by applying the same rules to Obama and Clinton that you apply to Nixon.
Nixon was not as big a disgrace as you seem to think. Stop reading revision history and read the true facts. Nixon a criminal, for committing the ordering the FBI not to investigate a CIA action on the US soil. Sounds like a President(s) who had the FBI stonewall many investigations in the 90's and since 2009. Yet we don't talk about that. Connecting with China allowed him to work a demanded peace with Vietnam, not that it was a good peace but it was what the American people wanted.
President Reagan knew how to speak with people, not down to them. That is how he was able to "personalize" his relationship with the American people, all of them. We all felt his dream of the shining city on the hill and I really wish today's politicians and pundits would remember that. He an Tip O'Neill accomplished much in their working together and I would hope that could happen again but I do not think that we will ever see that happen again.

Mr. Blackwell, I enjoyed your column but there is a factual error in it. The African Embassies were bombed on August 7, 1998, and the U.S.S. Cole was attacked on October 12, 2000. Great article and editorial.
