Reid clearly stood in the way of things that would have prevented the full-blown shutdown as we came to know it. Their whole game is to crush the opposition to gain power in the next election. Unfortunately, too many Repubs are naive enough to believe that deep down, Dems still believe in America; they don't. They only see transformation.

With respect, I think the Framers were far less divided ideologically than our present-day "leaders". And, the Constitution kept either side from expanding the role of the federal government in either side's favor. Many things have changed since then that allow Washington to have way too much say in our affairs.
