Former Acting Director of the IRS has admitted to Congress, under oath, that the targeting of conservative groups, was politically motivated. What kind of evidence does Ezra Klein need before he will acknowledge there is "proof"?
Right now the only reason to support the GOP leadership is that they are not the Democrats.
Nixon didn't hate the US. And he didn't resent the people that made it great.
Constitutionally, Congress has no control over the Executive Branch other than impeachment. And any impeacment of any Democrat, no matter how obviously guilty he is, will be stonewalled by Harry Reid & Co.in the Senate. In addition, there is a solid 38-45% of the electorate who really believe that Democrat = Good and Republican = Bad, and are impervious to facts. They can't even comprehend the concept of suppression of the press through intimidation, let alone grasp the manner in which it is used to flex the muscles of political power.
Biden should be sent to an asylum for the criminally stupid where he won't be allowed to do anything that will hurt himself.
Look. it took 500 conservative 501 (c) 3s more than 3 years to get their tax-exempt status certified while EVERY liberal PAC that apllied for the same thing sailed through. Even if it were true (and it's not) that Obama was unaware that his IRS had become a politically partisan finctionary or auxiliary of the Democrat Party he would still be guilty of gross negligence and incompetence for not knowing this was going on. Thus his defense is no defense. What makes his non-defense even worse is the lie that he's angry about it and won't tolerate it. In truth he requires it of his minions and they couldn't get a job in his administration (or keep the job they already have) if they weren't doing these things.
The Justice Department is PART OF THE WHITE HOUSE.The WH is involved in EVERYTHING the DOJ does.
When Bush implemented a program to monitor phone calls from probable terrorists under the Patriot Act the left, including their media, screamed about the 'invasion of privacy'. But Obama can criminalize investigations into his administration's own criminal behavior and the left just yawns. Or blames it on Republicans in Congress.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Obama to appoint a Special Prosecutor. And don't hold your breath waiting for the media to demand that he do so. Instead of a Special Prosecutor, the aggrieved parties' best recourse might be a class action lawsuit in civil court against the IRS and against the individual IRS employees who targeted them. Failing that there may be the option (in red states) of criminal complaints against IRS employees for extortion. Even if the 'suspects' get off the hook a criminalcomplaint will allow state prosecutors to subpoena IRS records instead of trusting the same perps who committed these crimes to release everything that's relevant.

Sending today's GOP after these sharks is like sending Barney Fife after Public Enemy #1.
