Good article. Sobering comments. Armed security in public schools? Mentally ill children become mentally unstable adults if the right treatment modality & setting is never implemented. Schools aren't clinical treatment facilities OR quasi-correctional centers. Can we just get back to educating children? Too much is already demanded of our schools. I will be thankful when public school teachers can once again teach & our children can learn in a safe & sane environment.

"Classified" student numbers continue increasing as schools identify more children who qualify for special education funds.   The decline in public education was NOT from  removing God  from schools.  It was from PL 94-142 mainstreaming "devilishly" dangerous  behavior in schools!  PL 94-142 http://www.nd.edu/~rbarger/www7/pl94-142.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_for_All_Handicapped_Children_Ac ADHD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder http://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/adhd-medication-chart

No phalanx of Phds. & Masters level educators will fix this problem.  Public schools cant implement corrective measures . It's  a mental health issue...for MH professionals...in an appropriate MH setting. Now the  NRA wants teachers/police to strap up in schools.  To protect children we should "incarcerate" them  in secured day programs".   From  8am-2:30pm, our children will be in lockdown mode.  The NRA wants to replicate the  legal system's supervised juvenile correction day programs...for children who have committed no crime! Target the root of the problem:  mental illness,  lack of adequate treatment facilities/protocols & PL 94-142.   Public schools are not treatment facilities or quasi-correctional operations.

No one is safe, not even the disabled child.     Unless a kid snaps & commits a crime or gets physically violent, either in school or out...no one can do anything for fear of violating the rights of the disabled child.  We watch this potential red flag population as they matriculate  K-12th grades.   Many wreck havoc in the classrooms. Many are heavily medicated. Many are silent...like Lanza.   PL 94-142 had good intentions but these kids now hold schools hostage & some parents are in denial about their ADHD  kids.  This federal law gave bad behavior a pass & mandates systemic insanity in schools.     No amount of federal funding will turn regular schools into clinical treatment facilities for disturbed children.

Armstrong...Great article.  Don't agree with the partisan take on a horrendously non-partisan problem.    No one is looking at another possible contributor to the ills of young males.      Post Sandy Hook, maybe  it's  time to revisit the 1973 Education Act for All.    PL 94-142 mandated placing handicap students  in the least restricted learning environment & eliminating separate special ed classes, schools, programs, etc. "Disabled"  children must be " mainstreamed" into regular classrooms.    For almost 40 years, everyone has seen public schools  become incubators for misfit students who become more brooding, self destructive, & disturbed.     "Red flags" are all over the place for many classified students..waiting for the right
Rather than focusing on political affiliations of job candidates...I'd want to know what are their work/ life survival skills sets. Can they  think, reason logically? Can they  creatively problem solve?  Will they enhance my business.  Can they do the job with passion & commitment.   These young folks will bounce back. Their loss is a teachable moment:  never put all your eggs in one basket.
Politics or not, young people must always have back up plans for the   " what if".   To find them shattered or distraught says they  lacked critical/creative thinking skills & the ability to plan long term.   All should have been prospecting for other opportunities post election...win or lose.  When you fail to plan...you plan to fail.  College students pinning all their career aspirations on a campaign season are foolish.    Public service or private sector...bright, intelligent young people  must continually  create options for themselves.  Hard to believe they have no other marketable job skills.
I've read the " thousand years  institution of marriage" evolved from the early Roman Christian church edict that was actually designed to enrich & propagate the church.  Not a divine  order from on high.    Many much earlier biblical stories however, suggest multiple wives & concubines  were also favored/sanctioned by God.  What gives here?
