Pointing a gun at a man threatening you with a knife is very offensive, well, to the attacker anyway.

Where did you go to grammar school? If you take out a gun because someone just walked up to you with a knife in his hands, that is a defensive move.

It does become an offensive move if you pointed a gun at an unarmed person for no reason. And by unarmed I mean that he presents with no weapon of any kind (ex. bomb) in his hands.

Hands and blunt instruments kill more innocent (read - non-criminal) people in the U.S. than weapons. Do you honestly think that because someone doesn't have a knife or a gun that they present no threat to you? Most rapist and murderers do not use knives and guns, they use brute strength or everyday household items to bludgeon, strangle, or beat their victims into subsmission or death.

After a press conference held last week by Emeryville, California Police Chief Ken James, it’s easy to see a decline in both language and critical thinking skills in our country. And as Orwell thought, indeed civilized society may very well be in jeopardy.
