Well, I'm listening to the President's acceptance speech, but I must have nodded off because all I'm hearing is platitudes and one-liners pandering to every group he apparently has on a check list. Of course, the crowd is going wild. Now it's over. He opened by saying he wasn't elected to tell us what we want to hear, then went on to do just that. As far as I can tell his plan is (1) re-elect me, (2) a miracle happens; (3) we all live happily ever after.

Hanging over President Obama's acceptance speech tonight is the looming August jobs report, which will drop at 8:30 tomorrow morning.  Will it punctuate the convention on an upbeat note, or puncture its "forward" message?  As he addresses the hall this evening, Obama will already know the answer to that question:
