Uhh - " the worst record in decades" belongs to your beloved George Bush... and it aint even close. In fact, you can say all the milquetoast things you wish about the Romney-Ryan ticket, but the true fact of the matter is that America developed its knee-jerk rejection reaction to "all things GOP" at the Presidential level not because Romney stunk and not even because we are sooooo deeply in love with Obama. Its because we still hate Bush -- and you still don't realize it. If you did you'd never let Karl Rove on TV again -- and you'd be telling Rush and Ann and Hannity and O'Reilly to start acting less arrogant and snarky than they did back in the Bush dark ages. Same old party? Same old results. (Gonna be that way for a long time)

Actually Marie, you are wrong. I believe that either party needs a functioning, loyal opposition. Republicans are an important brake on Democrat excesses, and vice versa. I do not wish to see the Republican Party go the way of the Whigs. But, Republicans are on the road to irrelevancy if they don't start using their brains.

Isn't it tragically ironic that the man who rode the perfect storm into public office on the horse of national unity has now perfected the politics of division so spectacularly that he won re-election despite the worst record in decades?

For when you sift through the rubble from the Republican Party's 2012 nuclear catastrophe, you find consistent clues pointing to a simple explanation: We lost because Barack Obama convinced enough voters that he cares more about people than Mitt Romney, a rich white guy who is contemptuous of the poor, women, blacks and seniors.
