Entitlement programs can be cut intelligently. The original intent of Social Security was it would be a base for safe retirement. After Johnson and his War On Poverty it became a catch all for entitlements that were never intended and could not be maintaned. Look deep inside S.S. and will be found a number of items that could be removed without any great pain. College for children whose father died. My son entered college the year his older brother had died after a lengthy illness. We were broke and on the verge of losing our home. He worked in a car wash and put himself through college, graduating summa cm laudi with a baccalaureate in Computer science. He taught math on the free time he had and scrubbed pots at a...
Beyond this particular case, virtually every issue that effects our daily lives can be changed (distorted?) by one person in a federal court. The ineluctable truth is that most of the issues in our lives were never legislated, they were imposed by Judicial fiat. The courts have far too much power, hair splitting is a national sport by the unelected Federal Judges, usually appointed by a President that knows that they will adhere to his particular ideological, political philosopy. Roe vs Wade is a classic example of Judicial overreach of an issue that should have been handled by legislation. There are clearly examples of the public's attitude towards the homosexual community and changes in the public acceptance of their rights....

Tribalism Returns to Europe

I was born in the UK, came here after the end of WW11. The UK is in a state of decay. Scotch have virtually their own country, the Welsh have been demanding the same thing and have some kind of autonomy, Northern Island, as Westminster has repeatedly pledged, will be severed from the UK when the majority of its citizens desire it. That leaves England, which has been the engine of prosperity, alone. It has most of the industrial capacity and financial institutions and the bulk of the population. When I was in the British Army in Burma, we had all three of the components of the nation fighting the war and working together at it. Scotch Regiments were heavily populated with Englishmen same with the Welsh Regiments. I was...
I am a Conservative since I was old enough think rationally. Lilly, you are just as mean spirited as those you oppose. As a nation we are not particularly well mannered and it has definitely gotten much worse. The name calling on this site from both sides beggars description. I stay away from it for weeks on end at times. I am a British WW11 veteran and I can't count the times that America saved my British @ss that has been posted here and on other sites. Britain, with just 37% of the population of the U.S. had more battlefield casualties than the U.S.did. Throw in the many former Colonies and the disparity becomes startling. I have never seen in the press, or Documentary mention of the critical role played by Canada in...
Sorry, that shoulda been sad instead of said and a D before ominion. Cheers!
About 40 years ago I was doing some work for a Jewish friend of mine. She lived in a large house in a neighbourhood that was "changing" and she was concerned about it. When I asked her why she said "Blacks have a casual approach to violence." Living as a minority in rural Virginia it is said to say that she was correct. Reading the local newspaper, County Court section, headlines "Two murders, one Capital." Reading on down there were 12 other indictments for various felonies, eight were Afros as were the two murderers. If statistics are to be taken then the lady was correct 40 years ago. There has not been a white murderer in this county in the last 12 years. Also the Capital murderer can look forward to (if convicted)...
Grayson is just another minority jerk. He is also a lawyer so how can you expect anything different?
I lived in Levittown, N.Y. My property taxes were $8,990.00 20 years ago I moved to rural Virginia. Driving on the Southern State Parkway heading for Virginia we saw a sign on a bridge. "Get out of New York Before it is too late." My wife was a secretary for a Assemblyman until she quit to come to Virginia. When I first met her I almost ruined our first date when she told me what a swell guy he was. I told her "He ain't been in office long enough." Anyway, we dated, married and moved to a spot of Paradise, a beautiful waterfront home in a tiny, upscale enclave. My taxes were $1140,00 per year on a house that's equivalence on Long Island would have cost $600,000. There are only 12 houses stretched over more than a...

Mr. Buchanan has been speaking the truth for a long, long time. Read his books, written way before the pickle we are now in came about. It is already too late to reverse the trend of destruction of this nation. I came to America 63 years ago and I am 84 years old, a WW11 veteran. If any of the writers of comments today remember the way this nation was 63 years ago, let them give their opinion of what they saw and lived. Speaking for myself, I did not see the nihilistic, degraded, self destructive conduct that is rampant, in my mind, taking place today. Yes, there was blatantly bad treatment of blacks and minorities, I was discriminated myself by a contractor who needed qualified carpenters but would not hire me because I...

I am a Naturalized American and love the country deeply, which is why I left the UK in 1947. As a kid I read everything I could about America. War of Independence, War of 1812, War Between the States and anon. I also read somewhere and cannot suppy the author. I do not believe I am paraphrasing, but here goes ............ "Everything in America winds up in court." When I came here 63 years ago it didn't take me too long to realize that we are in thrall of trial lawyers and psychiatrists. It shocks me not that this marvellous country is in the pickle it is in since I know the Congress is run by a gaggle of lawyers. Shakespeare said:- "First thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers." I don't believe in killing all the...
