Forty one years with the phone company and a member of the CWA union that took substantial union dues every payday and provided nothing in return. The "demands of service" required that almost every department be staffed or have someone on call 24 - 7 - 365. We employees worked it out amongst ourselves and no one needed or wanted the union's help / interference. As they now exist government regulations and unions cost our country an untold number of good paying jobs and are killing our economy.

Killing the goose that lays the golden egg is one of those old fairy tales for children which has a heavy message that a lot of adults should listen to. The labor unions which have driven the makers of Twinkies into bankruptcy, potentially destroying 18,500 jobs, could have learned a lot from that old children's fairy tale.
