Thanks to 30 seconds of this video, I just threw up my breakfast.

9-9-9...The Movie!

I'm not a Cain for POTUS guy, mainly because of my concerns that he doesn't have enough foreign policy foundation, although he does seem to have good instincts (although a know-little-to-nothing with good instincts is way better than the know-thinks-that-just-aren't-so with bad instincts we have now). That said, the 999 deserves a hearing and this is reasonably effective. Thanks for sharing it, Katie.
Michael, Thank you for providing the information I was seeking--a connection between the DHS site and fryer video. I couldn't find it and Katie didn't provide it. I appreciate the name calling too.
Katie, thanks for raising that fryer video, I am still waiting for an answer to my questions in the comments there. To summarize: The video is from Underwriters Lab (UL), nowhere that I saw in the article or the video is a relationship between DHS and this video explained. Underwriter's Lab is NOT a government agency NOR a government sponsored entity. UL is an independent non-profit that certifies the safety of products and is funded by industry itself. UL is a socialist's worst nightmare: private industry coming together to self regulate and doing a better job than any government agency ever could, at lower cost. So why did you blame DHS for that video? Is your credibility any better on this?
Actually, the producer of this video, Underwriter's Lab (UL), is NOT a government agency. They are a non-profit funded by industry as a self-regulating organization. They are NOT even affiliated with DHS--the federal agency that they interface with is the Department of Labor and its subagency OSHA. UL was founded by a group of engineers nearly 100 years ago, and is a socialist/fascist nightmare: private industry, coming together with no government oversight to self-fund a self regulating organization. I am frankly confused by the DHS mention in this headline, because there is no explanation as to the relationship between UL and DHS... because there is none.
I'm not sure why this is listed as coming from DHS? This video is from Underwriter's Lab (UL), nowhere that I saw in the article or the video is a relationship between DHS and this video explained. Underwriter's Lab is NOT a government agency NOR a government sponsored entity. UL is an independent non-profit that certifies the safety of products and is funded by industry itself. In fact, UL is a socialist's worst nightmare: private industry coming together to self regulate and doing a better job than any government agency ever could, at lower cost. This video is a response to consumers who have written UL asking why no turkey fryers have UL certification. So, can anyone explain to me why DHS is being blamed for this?
Daniel, You are right. If Perry had banned the vaccine by executive order I would complain about that too. As I said, "Encouraging the use of the vaccine is one thing and probably a good thing." My complaint, and a lot of people's complaints, regard the WAY he went about doing what he did, and the reason why. Even he now admits he made a mistake. What bothers me about this whole incident is that it displays either (1) an impulse for non-democratic government intervention into the doctor-parent-child relationship or (2) a crony-capitalism impulse, given that his former chief of staff was making a living lobbying for the very thing he chose to do--and getting Texas on-board was likely a condition of his employment.
Anne_PA, No child was vaccinated without parental permission ONLY because the legislature and the courts prevented the executive order from being implemented--over his objection that they had no right to override his decree. Ins companies are mandated by laws to cover all kinds of treatments w/out the requirement that everyone have the treatment--for example some states mandate that ins companies cover psychiatric care or contraceptives or sex change operations, but they don't require that everyone have such care. I can understand mandatory vaccines to protect kids for illnesses that can be transmitted simply by being in the same room with someone who's sick, but that isn't the case with HPV.
RE: The Update Encouraging the use of the vaccine is one thing and probably a good thing. Provide full information to parents, do PSAs, require insurance companies to cover it and make sure its covered in the safety net programs like other vaccines--so long whatever is done is accomplished using the normal democratic processes. HOWEVER, to require or mandate that every child must be inoculated against a disease that is not communicable except through sexual contact or they can't attend school, without parental consent beforehand (opt-out without notification is not the same as notification of an "opportunity" to opt-in), and to do so by executive decree because your former chief of staff (now lobbyist) says so is just WRONG
For fracking to be a factor, there would need to have been fracking in the area. Oddly enough, there was not and there has not been any fracking anywhere near the epicenter of that quake. New York City's "public" radio station looked into the issue, and here is there conclusion: http://www.wnyc.org/articles/wnyc-news/2011/aug/23/explainer-did-hydrofracking-have-anything-do-east-coast-quake/ The short version of this article: NO!
