If you are, by stating "people do realize that Germany was a Democracy" suggesting that the US is a democracy, then you have flawed your argument. Not that I don't agree in principle with the comparison. The exception is that the US is not a democracy, it is a Federal Republic. The Federal Republic was chosen specifically to enable the limits of power, and to prevent emotional charged overthrows by dictators such as Hitler. The founding fathers talked of it specifically.

There are some very serious issues at stake in this year's election -- so many that some people may not be able to see the forest for the trees. Individual issues are the trees, but the forest is the future of America as we have known it.

The America that has flourished for more than two centuries is being quietly but steadily dismantled by the Obama administration, during the process of dealing with particular issues.
