Cost has never been the main consideration for most of the people who didn't have coverage. A great deal of the reasoning was a simple denial of the necessity for insurance! Young people have rarely considered their mortality until marriage and maturity forced them to judge between common sense and instant gratification. Add to that the dead beats that game the system as the 'poor' and fill the emergency rooms of all hospitals every Saturday and Sunday.
The Romney campaign likes to project an image of great confidence. It sees itself as an organization that doesn't panic when things go wrong and doesn't jump when critics, especially nervous Republicans, urge Romney to change direction.

But that doesn't mean Team Romney ignores advice, and we are now seeing Romney tweak his campaign pitch in response to the concerns of several of those nervous Republicans.
