I'm surprised that the cops aren't going after the gun owners up there, since owning a gun is illegal in NYC/NJ.

It is not illegal for honest adult citizens to own guns in NY or NJ.

the restrictions there are oppressive and unconstitutional.

You, sir, are incorrect. I am a lawyer living in the NY Metro area. Honesty and adulthood are not recognized qualifications for gun ownership. Most people cannot get a pistol permit in the 5 boroughs of NY City. People living in Nassau and Westchester Counties bordering on the City can only get "target" permits for pistols unless they can satisfy some faceless detective that they have specifically identifiable needs for extra personal security to be issued a concealed carry permit. Rifles are a different story, but, again, the City is the exception. It IS illegal to own a pistol in New York City, with very rare exception. Welcome to the People's Republic of NY, Blooming Idiot, Mayor. He has a fetish about guns.

After riots swept parts of the United Kingdom last year, I wrote about the moral argument for gun ownership. Simply stated, it is wrong to disarm law-abiding people, particularly when there is a risk of societal breakdown.

The same argument is equally applicable in the areas ravaged by the recent storm to hit the northeastern United States. As you can see from this report in the New York Post, the government is failing in its responsibility to provide law and order.
