The vacating victories is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Change the past and history? This has nothing to do with the X's and O's. This has nothing to do with competition on the field. You are punishing everyone who played football at Penn State since 1998? Ridiculous! This about a twisted pedophile coach and a cover up. Nothing more.

Normally I'd agree with you, but in this case, vacating victories, I think (and a few sports commentators have mentioned this) was more a PR move to get Joe Paterno off the top of the list of winningest coaches of all time. They couldn't just arbitrarily pick however many would put him below Bobby Bowden (and, thus # 2 in Division 1-A or 1 FBS or whatever they are calling it today) so they picked (arbitrarily) the year that they think this all started.

but vacating victories seems more like overkill and frankly does for the victims

but making Penn State pay the full costs of the counselling services as well as punitive payments for what one of their employees did to his victims

as well as changing the rules that will lead to criminal charges filed against all who knowingly cover up such perverted actions in the future

and the rules need to be in place that require background checks on all those who are inviolved in any activities involving children and if some pervert is outed, his record needs to be made part of the public record so that others can make sure he is never allowed around children

NCAA President Mark Emmert announced sweeping sanctions against Penn State University this morning, in response to the horrific child sex abuse scandal that has rocked the school's venerable football program.  The university's own investigation -- led by former FBI director Louis Freeh -- determined that top university officials and football personnel, including the late Joe Paterno, participated an extensive cover-up to protect Penn State football.  These actions enabled former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky to continue to rape children, some of whom he victimized inside PSU football facilities.  Emmert described the "punative and corrective" measures the NCAA has...
