In all the television commentary I have heard regarding the adulterous acts of Governor Mark Sanford, the concern has been more about how he left the state undefended and without notice rather than the fact that he committed adultery. The adultery seems to have taken second stage. However, if he wasn't committing adultery, he wouldn't have left the state undefended and without notice, so the adultery really is the center piece of the whole issue. Adultery is an indicator of low moral character. The author of this column is right on when he asks the final question: How can we, the citizens of South Carolina, think that Sanford will treat us any better than he did his wife for whom he had such little regard that he cheated on her, or...
