That only happened because the polls were with Trent Lott, who was the last fiscally sane leader of either party. Clinton the poll watcher did not want to pay the political price, and he even got to take the credit. What a deal!

The House on Wednesday passed legislation that directs President Obama to submit a balanced budget plan to Congress this spring.
