I have a different perspective. I am not going to talk about all the mistakes made in SS. Most of us know that 1) the government cannot be trusted to use our tax dollars wisely and 2) politicians constantly lie. So why depend on Social Security to fund retirement? The govt is not your friend. The govt is always seeking to tax you and waste it. People should invest their available money (after SS) in whatever they choose and be willing to accept the risks involved instead of overspending. This means to take advantage of every way to save some money and to try to make good investments. Put the responsibility on yourselves instead of depending on the govt.
