As far as the draft goes, we would not have won the Civil War or WWII without it. There are situations when there will not be enough volunteers to get the job done. One day when we finally have to deal with Iran, it will take a general mobilization to provide enough ground troops go in, find every site and destroy them. Our current Army and Marine Corps could also not handle another Korean war without calling every National Guard division. We should actually be like Israel or Switzerland and have a universal draft for all men and women. The Armed Forces get what they need and the rest go into community service for two years.

Katie, you are dead wrong about the draft and women in combat units. Putting woman in combat units will do nothing to increase effectiveness and is all about political correctness. Gen Dempesy (Chief of Staff, JC) is all ready on record of saying that if women can’t attain the same standards that the standard will be reviewed to see if it really needs to be that high. The current military leadership is doing whatever the President wants. Any General/Admiral who disagrees is being purged or silenced.

All income is treated the same, no exemptions for anything, all everyone files as an individual, a $10,000 personal deduction for each tax payer, send in 10% of the rest, have a nice day. We have heavily armed gangs terrorizing our citizens along the border. Declare martial law in all counties next to the border. Deploy units returning from Afghanistan in this area. Interdict any and all coming across. Those who are armed and are dumb enough to open fire should be blown off the face of the earth. This is way beyond a law enforcement problem and I am not talking about illegal immigrants.

I don't get it. Tell me what is being cut. All that is happening is the rate of spending INCREASE is being reduced from 4% to 2%. Why can't DoD or any other Federal agency do what they did last year with 2% more money? I say, bring it on. These automatic reductions in the rate of incease are not what is needed to get our out-of-control government back in line, but it is better than nothing. Stop talking about non-existent cuts.

I wonder if you or Cookie have ever served. I put in 23 years as a tanker, with a year in Nam. Being a tank crewman is a lot more than just sitting the driver's seat. Most maintenance is a lot of knuckle busting. How about the loader? 120mm rounds are somewhat heavy and speed is important. You can't have one position where woman can be and the others not. Messes up career progression. Yes, take a look at Israelis, please. They tried it and stopped. No discussion here about combat effectiveness/readiness, only political correctness. With 6 or 7 billion people in the world, just think about the amount of CO2 being released evry minute. How shameful, all those dirty, polluting, unregualted humans. We need a new EPA regulation controlling the number of times a day a person is allowed to exhale. Once you have reached the number you will be cannot exhale until the next day. You will still be allowed to inhale just not exhale. You may have to hold your breath frequently during the day to avoid reaching the limit. You may have to do all you communications in writing or texting as verbal stuff generated too much CO2. Of course Congress and the Executive branch of government will be exempt.

Oh please, all Federal departments will see an incease in spending every year under sequestration. The incease will just be a little less than projected. Only a Democrat would call this a cut. Bring it on. Everyone talks about how the Republicans will resist any reduction in the rate of spending for Defense. I can't wait to see how the progressives/liberals/marxists will squirm over the decreased rate of spending for their holy social progams. The amount involved needs to be four times the current amount to really reduce spending. This is all smoke and mirrors.

I dearly hope sequestration happens. This is the only way that the rate of Federal spending gets reduced. First, it is not a cut, but only a reduction in the planned/expected rate of spending. Federal spending will still increase every year to include DoD. Only a Demcrat would call it a cut. This is spread over ten years and is very managable. As far as DoD goes, it becomes a matter of priorities. Watch combat capability, readiness and training be cut to save the overhead. You could fire every third person, military and civilian, in the Pentagon without hurting anything. In fact it would make things better for all below them. Closing a bunch of useless bases would hurt either, but "not in my district".
