general westmorland was the best this country could do for vietnam. i think he and this petraeus were clever at passing tests, but couldn't lead a tank charge against unarmed paraplegics. you see all those ribbons on his chest. well, if he's stationed at fort dix he gets a ribbon for that, and if he's then at fort leonard he gets one for that, one one for fort sill, etc. he thinks engaging the citizens of iraq or halfganistan will get them to like us. yeah, if they were wearing t-shirts and jeans instead of carrying assault guns and grenades. it might be just me but that isn't a warm, friendly and cozy image, but it's needed, so forget the mr nice guy mirage.

Was David Petraeus as great a general as the write-ups of his downfall routinely claim? This is a provocative question that I will begin to answer with another question: Did America prevail in the Iraq War? I suspect few would say "yes" and believe it, which is no reflection on the valor and sacrifice of the American and allied troops who fought there. On the contrary, it was the vaunted strategy of the two-step Petraeus "surge" that was the blueprint of failure.
