This is what happens when you elect an extreme ideologue to high office. In the past, presidents (even to some degree Bill Clinton) recognized that we are all free to think what we want. Whether we agree or not on politics and policy, we are all Americans sharing many of the same goals, hopes, and dreams. During presidential inaugural addresses, past presidents have made it a point to show that despite their own political beliefs, they occupied an office that belonged not to them, but to the American people - all of them. Not so 0. In the mind of a political extremist there are only two kinds of people; those who follow, and enemies who must be destroyed. It has always been so.

For generations, presidents have used their inaugural address to unite the nation in aspiring to new heights of achievement. But earlier this week President Obama chose to deliver a harshly ideological, aggressively partisan speech more appropriate for the campaign trail than the solemn occasion of our nation's 57th inaugural address. Rather than bring all Americans together with a celebration of common ground, his address read like a liberal laundry list with global warming at the top.
