Those were police responding from outside the facility. Armed resource officers follow different procedures and act much more as a reaction force. Internal security acts swiftly to confront and contain the attack, employing deadly force if necessary. Employed in a facility with internal containment infrastructure, it can be quite effective at limiting casualties in the event that inner-shell security has been breached. But the most critical component of this system is deterrence. The facility is now no longer a 'soft' target, and therefore not as appealing a target.

There are now calls from the Left for gun control legislation in response to Adam Lanza's unconscionable mass killing of innocent children at Sandy Hook Elementary. However, very few people seem to be asking the most basic question of all before getting started: What gun control legislation could have stopped Adam Lanza?

The answer is "none."

Let's consider a few alternatives:
