The Fair Housing Act of 1968 had made it illegal for real estate agents and banks to discriminate against homeowners on the basis of race. Red-lining emerged as a subtle way to continue this discrimination, by declaring, certain neighborhoods as unfit to invest in. By 1977, the results of this practice were becoming too obvious, so Congress stepped and gave lenders a choice: if you want the FDIC to insure your deposits, STOP the redlining. The CRA didn't force lenders to make riskier loans. It required they take each applicant on his own merits and give people in poorer neighborhoods the same chance at a mortgage that everybody else in town was getting. It wasn't about preferential treatment. It was about equality.
1 of 11 Racist Lies Republicans Tell to Avoid Blaming Wall Street for the Financial Crisis. The Community Reinvestment Act was a liberal boondoggle designed to con banks into funding housing for undeserving, unqualified minorities. False. The CRA of 1977 was the result of decades of disinvestment in poor and working-class neighborhoods. It was designed to put an end to "red-lining" -- a widespread practice in which banks refused to write mortgages for houses in certain neighborhoods, no matter who was applying or how creditworthy they were.
Just what does 'Pro-Abortion' mean? Do you think that every abortion occurs because libeeerals drive around in a car, spot a woman, and drag her to an abortion mill? Isn't every abortion that occurs because the woman (mother of the unborn child) has signed a death warrant for her child? If you think it's murder, how many years should the woman, who has committed murder go to jail? One suspects that Republicans find playing politics and using lofty rhetoric are more important to them than actually reducing abortion.
Too much Republican hate speech led to this. Jose Guerena, a 26-year-old father of two and veteran of the Iraq war, died on May 5 in his home near Tucson, Ariz., during an anti-drug police raid. Authorities initially reported that they thought Guerena fired upon them, but an investigation revealed that no shots were fired. "Arizona Police Under Scrutiny After Opening Fire on and Killing Marine in His Home" http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/05/27/report-marine-fatally-shot-swat-team-did-open/ Republicans, you suck!
You either love the free markets and small government or you do not. Republicans do NOT. Again, these closet Republicans behave like the Nazis in Osweicim, Poland (Auschwitz). The Nazi said it is a shower and it's for your own good. But can you really believe them?
I talked to a TeaParty guy about the privatization of social security. He said, "Allowing young people to opt out of social security and investing that money in the stock market will be like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when they reach their golden years." Now, I asked that same Tea Party guy about having a 401k plan replace the pension plan for US military personnel. Astonishingly, he said, "That would be cruel!, they do dangerous work." What happened to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow all my fellow conservatives and myself will ask.
Now, folks, just how many bills did any Republican senator write while Harry Reid was Senate Majority Leader, Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House and Obama was president??? Is this another example of a Republican showing that a core value of theirs is taking RESPONSIBILITY? People who believe that Ted Kennedy wrote bills when Republican held the levers of power in DC would believe that the Jews caused the Holocaust, because, gee wiz, they were in Europe.
I talked to a Tea Party guy who told me that he is a registered Republican. He said he was against government run health care. I advised him that Medicare Prescription was passed in 2003. He told me that the Republican party opposed it. I told him that George W. Bush was president at the time. He told me that George Bush was no conservative and that the majority of the Republican party opposed it. I advised him that not only was George Bush president, but that Denny Hastert, a Republican, was Speaker of the House, and Bill Frist, a Republican, was Senate Majority Leader, at that time in 2003. He emphatically stated, "TED KENNEDY WROTE THE BILL!"
A Tea Party Express guy came up to me and complained about affirmative action. I asked him "Why is that so bad?" He said, "People should get ahead in America based on their personal merit and willingness to work hard!" Did John McCain get into the US Naval Academy and did George W. Bush get into both Harvard and Yale based on their own hard work? (Yes, the astute reader could even throw in Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, perhaps) The Tea Party Express guy basically summarized an opinion that said NEPOTISM good, affirmative action evil.
Anyway, it all ended when the Bush administration said they needed $700 billion 'quick and clean' to bail out Wall Street and John McCain shut down his campaign to rush to DC to do Wall Streets bidding.
