The important difference between big business and small business is their ability to make political contributions. Since fund raising is time consuming, and small businesses tend to be independently minded, it is much easier to fund a political campaign with a few large donations from big business (and forget their employees). Therefore big business gets access for their money, and with that they buy loopholes for their profits, and regulations for their competitors. Of course the average voter doesn't care that his government is focused on short term gains just like big business is. The future will take care of itself - maybe.
