A&E statement, first draft? As a global media content company A+E Networks' core values are contingent on approval by a small group of extremist who mostly cling to bitter left-wing ideologies. We believe it is a privilege – even a moral obligation – to make sure these groups do not have their feelings hurt, and our integrity in bowing to their wishes by now is obvious and evident. That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phil's comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the "course language" he used and the misinterpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. But, as a bastion of politically correct thinking, we at the network could not tolerate a statement of beliefs that do not fall lock-step with the thinking of an elite and always-offended few. But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man's views. It also is a huge cash cow for the network. One need only look at our weekly line-up, and how often we run the show, to recognize that. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E also feel strongly about, if only for the purposes of public grandstanding and pandering while we rush off to deposit our true core value – consumer bucks – in the bank.
