"Americans change their minds on some issues. One of them is crime and punishment."
Hogwash. When it comes to serious crime Americans by and large want fair, swift, certain, and tough justice when deserved. Just because liberals have the microphone, this doesn't mean that the average citizen wants murderers, rapists, and career criminals back out on the streets in a few years...or as in the recent Montana case where a teacher with prior charges raped a 14-year-old girl and was given a 30 day sentence. (By the way, the girl later committed suicide but the judge stands by his ruling because she was "older than her years" and she therefore "shared responsibility" for her rape at 14--you can Google the story.)
Matter of fact, a lot of us are much less lenient than we might have been in years past as we see a new and vicious brutality becoming more and more common. Don't try to tell me that we've all gone soft on crime. That is trying to establish an agenda that simply does not exist except for those consumed with hatred of those whom they are jealous of....and of course for liberals at large who equate personal responsibility with abuse and discrimination.
