If following our own CURRENT laws on immigration vs creating new laws that reward illegal behavior and fail to solve the problem are not an important issue for the "base", then no issue is. Rubio failed to recognize that he would be held to his word of no amnesty. During his 2010 campaign, Rubio claimed, “I will never support –never have and never will support – any effort to grant blanket, legalization, amnesty to folks who have entered or stayed in this country illegally.” He also said, “I’m strongly against amnesty for a number of reasons. …The most important thing we need to do is enforce our existing laws. Nothing will make it harder to enforce existing laws” than to grant amnesty.
It is clear he never meant those words. I would rather have candidates who say what they mean when they run and stick to it than people like Rubio who say what they think will get them elected, then do what ever they want because they believe they know better, just like McCain, just like Graham. It does no good to have a candidate who sells us out on the truly important 40% while voting with us on the meaningless 60% (to use your example).
Even Rubiobots should be able to see that. If you can't, I suggest you put your head out of the sand.
