Hyon Song-wol's best known song is called "Excellent Horse Like Lady," in English but a closer translation would be "Virgin Riding on a Saddled Steed." Electric Horse-Lady makes no sense at all. North Korea is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, not the People's Republic of Korea. Press reports say the Hyon was heavily pregnant in March 2012 when she made her first public appearance in several years. This would make her execution even more terrible if it is true. If this story is true, it is a routine, business as usual story about everyday happenings in the DPRK. If the story isn't true, it is still possible. The DPRK is now in a crisis which threatens its existence, for its stated domestic policy to develop nuclear weapons is in direct conflict with policy of its sponsor, the PRC which wants stability on the Korean peninsula. A client state cannot long exist when it is in direct conflict with its sponsor. The PRC is now openly siding with the ROK on Korean questions. A free trade agreement is in the near and foreseeable future between these two Asian powers. Just as important is that while other Asian powers are opposing the PRC on many issues, the ROK and the PRC are seeing their interests converge.
