Yes, and no. Most of his support was monetary and followers who were enamored with the novelty of his skin color, which is a form of racism. His followers are wounded from our Godless, materialistic, individualist, society as it was broken down by the louder voices. Many of his followers were looking for the easy road to success. How many of them risk everything running their own businesses? Why risk when you can take a ride on the taxpayers' backs. Not much risk there for the timid wounded to lose. We need to get back to a God centered society with work ethics and care for one another, not codependency and slavery.
