Martha Burk, on Stossel's TV show, wanted high school cafeteria workers (mostly women) to be paid the same as custodial workers (mostly men) since both jobs had the same general requirements (in her mind). I propose that we ask each of the cafeteria workers whether they would rather shovel toilet overflows than potatoes. clean up vomit rather than kitchen counters, wash blood and spit off a floor rather than spilled milk, clean toilets rather than clean dirty pots and pans, lift heavy loads, rather than loafs of bread. As far as I know, there is no school district in the US that denies women the right to apply for the custodian's position or to accept her into such a position, if she can do the job.
It's amazing how really stupid intelligent people can become.
