Was a math/science teacher in Florida schools with 9th grade students who could not do fractions, as an example. 1/2+1/3 was a mystery. They could do it on their calculators in digital form but were mystified when I asked for it in fractional form. The NEA in Florida kept telling me how great everything was and would be better if they just had enough money, that old song. Close the public schools, fire the teachers and administrators, and give each parent a school use-only voucher to find the best private/parochial school possible.
