Yep, on the way in to work I thought about this young woman and the old UNCF motto: "The mind is a terrible thing to waste." It is terrible, a tragedy in the lives of thousands if not millions and a tragedy for our country. And unlike 40 years ago, when the motto was first used, today if one says that a young man or woman like Ms. Jeantel is wasting her mind, they will be labeled culturally insensitive at best and racist at worst. If the damage to these peoples lives, minds, and ethics, were plain to see like physical injury we would see this as a genocidal atrocity. But it is not, so anyone who describes the tragedy for what it is will be attacked. This is human tragedy and waste on display. And we should not allow so many lives and whole communities to be wasted without even a peep.
