If people want to come here and work, I'm fine with that. I have no problem with granting a work visa to anyone who passes a background check. I'd have no issues with work visas that automatically renew indefinitely, as long as the visa holder keeps their nose clean. If they want to spend their entire adult life working here, cool beans. And I have no problem with making availability of such visas essentially unlimited.
What I don't understand is the notion that just because somebody comes here to work, and does so for some extended period of time, that somehow automatically entitles them to U.S. citizenship. Can somebody please explain this to me?
