It's even deeper. We have a very poorly educated, ill-informed electorate and a republic depends on having a citizenry that is very well informed. Unless We the People know what is and isn't important (or even right) then objective reporting will still largely be lost on a bunch of robotic dummies.
What education people do get is also biased with the Founders no longer being brave men who gave us a nation of liberties but "hypocritical slave owners" who stole the land from the Native Americans. (No one is "native" to America, btw. They just got here first.) So we're also battling a leftwing educational system reinforced by a biased media as well as a culture of hedonism and secular humanism. Gee, what could be wrong with that?
